Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to replace Rohit Sharma for 2027 World Cup? India great makes colossal demand


Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been making the headlines since his exceptional performance off 80-balls 175 in the 2026 U-19 World Cup final against England is considered to be one of the best knocks in U-19 finals history. India World Cup winner Harbhajan Singh has heappraised the 14-year-old batter for his exceptional performance and believes that he should be considered for India’s next tour after the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Harbhajan Singh, speaking on his YouTube channel, shared his views on the young prodigy, and he believes Vaibhav should be added to ODI or T20Is. He also looks forward to him performing in the upcoming Olympics in 2028, and he can also get a call-up for the 2027 ODI World Cup as well.

Harbhajan Singh said on the performance of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, “We saw him in the IPL as well, explosive batting, there he wasn’t playing against Under-19 teams there. He is an incredible player. I think for the next India tour, be it ODIs or T20s, he should definitely be included. Imagine a team with Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jaiswal, it would be an amazing team! And in 2027, there’s the 50-over World Cup, another huge opportunity. Such young, hungry talent should definitely be played.”

“The Olympics are also coming in 2028, and I believe these players deserve opportunities. Vaibhav is already doing big things at such a young age. I won’t compare him to Tendulkar, no one can be like him, but Vaibhav has immense talent and is ready for international cricket. I think he should be fast-forwarded into the team. I hope that once he turns 15 on March 27, he gets a chance to play for India,”

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stars in the final

Vaibhav took the game away from England from the very first ball. While he was at the crease on Friday, India’s projected score was showing over 500 runs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck 15 sixes and as many fours in his blistering innings, and India posted 410 runs in their 50-overs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned the Man of the Match and the Player of the Tournament award for his exceptional performances. He scored 439 runs in seven innings with an average of 62.7 and a strike rate of 169.49, scoring three fifties and one century.

Harbhajan Singh in full praise of VVS Laxman

The 14-year-old boy first came into the light after his first ball six to Shardul Thakur in his first TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Rajasthan Royals. Vaibhav scored 34 off 20 balls in his first game. He also scored a century in the rich cash league against the Gujarat Titans on April 28, 2025. Since then, he has never turned back and has been performing superbly.

Harbhajan Singh also praised U-19 head coach VVS Laxman for holding the team together. He said, “The whole tournament, from start to finish, was phenomenal. Every player performed brilliantly, and I feel that the players who went there will come back even more mature. Congratulations to VVS Laxman and his entire coaching staff, they kept the team together. VVS Laxman is such a humble person, and when he works with the team, the team is always in a great mood and wins. Well done, VVS Laxman!”
