IND vs AUS: Suryakumar Yadav becomes first Indian batter to register golden ducks in ODIs

IND vs AUS 2023 ODI series

On 22nd March 2023, India faced Australia in a three-match ODI series, and unfortunately, India lost the series 1-2 against Australians. It was a disappointing result for the Indian cricket team, who were playing in front of their home crowd.

In the recently concluded India vs Australia ODI series, one of the most surprising and disappointing statistics emerged from the Indian team’s batting line-up. Suryakumar Yadav, a promising young talent, became the first Indian batter to register three consecutive golden ducks in ODI history.

A golden duck is when a batsman is dismissed without scoring a run on the very first ball they face. To be dismissed in this manner three times in a row is an unfortunate and rare feat that highlights a serious problem in the player’s technique or mindset.

Suryakumar Yadav, who made his ODI debut in the series against Sri Lanka in July 2021, had a great start to his international career, scoring a half-century in his very first match. However, things took a turn for the worse in the Australia series as he was dismissed for a golden duck in all three matches he played.

This poor run of form is a cause for concern not just for the player but also for the Indian team management, who will be looking to build a strong squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year. The team will need all their players firing on all cylinders if they are to challenge for the title.

While it is too early to write off Suryakumar Yadav, he will need to work on his technique and mental strength if he is to overcome this setback and make a strong comeback in the future.
