Sri Lanka Defeats Ireland by 133 Runs in ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023

Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 133 runs in the 15th match of the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 on Sunday, thanks to the stellar performance of star spinner Vanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga put up a brilliant show for the Sri Lankan team, taking the lead in the bowling department. He equaled a significant record set by former Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis.

In his third consecutive match, Hasaranga shattered Ireland’s World Cup dreams by taking five wickets. After Waqar Younis, he became the second bowler in ODI history to achieve the feat of taking five wickets in three matches consecutively. Waqar Younis had accomplished this milestone in the 1990 World Cup, where he scored 79 runs and took five wickets, becoming the second most expensive spinner in terms of runs conceded. Equaling Waqar Younis’ Record
In his last three matches, Hasaranga has delivered exceptional performances of 6/24, 5/13, and 5/79. As a result, Sri Lanka has not lost a single match in the World Cup Qualifier tournament. With three victories, Sri Lanka has secured a place in the Super Six. Scotland and Oman have also qualified alongside them.

Speaking of the match, experienced Dimuth Karunaratne played a magnificent innings of 103 runs off 103 balls, while wicketkeeper-batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 82 runs off 86 balls. Dhananjaya de Silva played a crucial innings of 42 runs off 35 balls, helping Sri Lanka reach a massive score of 325 runs. In response, Ireland was bowled out for 192 runs.
