Ravi Shastri Makes a Bold Prediction Regarding the Next Captain of the Indian Cricket Team
The debate over the Indian team’s captain has gained steam as the highly awaited Cricket World Cup, sometimes known as the “grand gathering” of cricket, is just four months away.
The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India this year, which will heighten interest in the competition. However, amidst all the anticipation, the topic garnering more attention than the tournament itself is the speculation regarding the captaincy of Team India.
Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has come under heavy fire since India lost the T20 World Cup.The series of criticisms directed towards Sharma’s leadership prompted former Indian coach Ravi Shastri to make a significant statement recently. Shastri offered his thoughts on who should be given the opportunity to lead the team after Rohit Sharma. Also Read: Lionel Messi: Celebrating the Iconic Career of the Greatest Football Player
Shastri expressed his belief that after the 2023 ODI World Cup, the responsibility of captaining the team in white-ball cricket should be handed over to Hardik Pandya. He stated, “I think after the 2023 World Cup, Rohit should consider relinquishing the captaincy in both ODI and T20 formats, and it’s time for Hardik Pandya to take charge. Without a doubt, Rohit should lead India in the World Cup; there is no room for doubt in that.”
Shastri’s opinion is centered around the notion that once the 2023 World Cup concludes, Rohit Sharma should step down from the captaincy positions in both ODIs and T20Is, allowing Hardik Pandya to assume leadership in both formats Shastri added, “I don’t think Hardik Pandya can handle the demands of Test cricket. I have my doubts about his suitability for Test cricket. To be honest, after the 2023 ODI World Cup, he should concentrate on leading the team in limited-overs formats.”
Furthermore, Shastri emphasized the importance of providing ample opportunities to young players. When discussing T20 cricket, Shastri believes there should be fewer doubts and questions. He remarked, “Thanks to the IPL, we get to witness the talent of young players, but it is crucial to offer them chances to showcase their abilities in red-ball cricket as well. No, I prefer to evaluate their red-ball performance. I will sit down with the selectors and delve deeper into the matter. I want to gain more insight into their red-ball achievements, against whom those performances were recorded, the circumstances under which they occurred, and the individual’s character.”
Ravi Shastri’s prediction has ignited further speculation regarding the future captain of the Indian cricket team. All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma as the World Cup draws near and his leadership abilities, while supporters excitedly await to see if Hardik Pandya will be selected as Rohit Sharma’s replacement to head Team India.
