Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur secured a spot in the final of the Queen’s Club Championships after a convincing victory over Danish second seed Holger Rune. De Minaur’s skill and agility proved too much for the 20-year-old Rune, who had previously not dropped a set in the tournament. Unfortunately for Rune, this defeat prevented him from reaching his first grass-court final.
De Minaur’s opponent in the final will be determined in the match between Spanish top seed Carlos Alcaraz and unseeded American Sebastian Korda. Alcaraz has the opportunity to reclaim the world number one ranking if he wins the prestigious Queen’s title, securing his position as the top seed at Wimbledon, which commences on July 3.
Currently ranked 18th in the world, De Minaur has set his sights on capturing his second career title on grass, following his victory at Eastbourne in 2021. His remarkable performance has made him the first Australian player since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006 to reach the final of this pre-Wimbledon event.
Throughout the match, De Minaur demonstrated his prowess by breaking Rune’s serve twice in the first set, allowing him to comfortably cruise through. The second set, however, posed a greater challenge as both players had to save break points. Nevertheless, De Minaur’s experience on grass courts shone through as he confidently secured the tiebreak.
Expressing his satisfaction with his performance, De Minaur stated, “I play exceptionally well on grass, and I thoroughly enjoy competing on this court. Today’s match was my best so far this week, and I am hopeful that I can outperform myself in tomorrow’s final, aiming for the ultimate victory.”
