Yuzvendra Chahal drops massive update on Shreyas Iyer’s wrist injury

A moment of fear for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) when their captain, Shreyas Iyer, was holding his wrist in pain. The game paused for a while as the medical staff rushed onto the ground to take a look at the matter.

More than the result of the Punjab Kings vs Gujarat Titans (PBKS vs GT) match, the concerns were more about the injury of the star batter on March 31.

Even after the game, cricket fans were in search of every possible update about Iyer’s injury, as he is not only important for PBKS but also for Indian cricket. A powerfully struck drive by Cooper Connolly hit Iyer’s wrist, who was standing at the non-striker’s end at that moment. The ball undoubtedly hit him hard.

Shreyas Iyer continued batting with an Injury in wrist

Despite the pain, Shreyas Iyer continued his batting after receiving medical assistance. But his innings did not last long. The right-handed batter was dismissed for 18 runs in 11 runs. The brief innings proved impactful, as the Gujarat Titans made a strong comeback with their experienced pacer in the effort to defend the total of 162.

The match at the PCA New Cricket Stadium, Tira, extended till the very last over to find the winner. It was eventually the Punjab Kings who got the win, thanks to the Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly, who registered an unbeaten 72 off 44 as an opener, which is an unusual position to bat, to confirm the much-needed win.

PBKS veteran Yuzvendra Chahal shares update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury

Along with Cooper Connolly, spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal also played a crucial role behind PBKS’ win in their first match of the ongoing IPL 2026 title race. Chahal plucked a couple of wickets, in the forms of Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill and England international Jos Buttler, in his 4-over spell, maintaining a tight economy rate of 7.00.

After the match, the spinner shared some crucial updates on Iyer’s injury. Chahal claimed that there is nothing to worry about their leader’s injury. “He’s fine, he’s absolutely fine. Nothing is there,” Yuzvendra Chahal said.

Iyer himself provided updates after the match

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Iyer himself assured that his wrist was as good as it was before, so there was nothing to panic.

“All I can say about the hand is that it is nice, same as it was before, I do not want to jinx anything,” he said about the injury scare.

“I was focused on my hand inside, icing it, and suddenly we lost two wickets back to back; these things happen in the IPL. You have to stay composed. Cooper was there, he was composed and calm,” he further added to encourage the effort of Connolly.

The upcoming match for PBKS is going to be very challenging as they will be up against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 3. For this match, the Kings will need a fully fit Shreyas Iyer on the field.
