Eventually, you got to play 40 overs of good cricket – Rishabh Pant
Batting first in the match, LSG registered a colossal total of 227/3, thanks to brilliant performances from Rishabh Pant (118*) and Mitchell Marsh (67). Defending the target, LSG bowlers were quite poor and allowed the run chase to be completed in 18.4 overs.
Speaking after the match, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant said that they needed to play 40 overs of good cricket to clinch a win. He said:
“Eventually you got to play 40 overs of good cricket. 20 overs will definitely not save you in a T20 game and that’s been our story. There were a lot of injury concerns before the tournament, that’s something that hurt us going through the season.”
While talking about his ton, Rishabh Pant said that he just wanted to make sure he converted his start into a big score. He said:
“(On his hundred) I was feeling well with each and every match but sometimes it just doesn’t come off. Today I made sure that if I am starting well I should make a big one. Like all the experienced players do, learning from the best always.”
“Whenever you get a start, try to make it big as possible. I was trying to play the field, how they were going to bowl, that was something I kept in mind. Playing through the line and looking for the areas and the gaps and kept it very simple. Played every ball with the same intensity and kept on playing with the same intensity throughout the innings.”
There’ll be a lot of areas where we’ll be talking and looking to improve – Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant further said that they need to make a lot of improvements to deliver better performance next season. He said:
“(On this season) There’ll be a lot of areas where we’ll be talking and looking to improve ourselves but the season is just ending, don’t know where the talk is going to go. Just want to switch off for a few days, not think about cricket and then the England series is coming up and just preparing for that in a good frame of mind.”
In the end, Rishabh Pant talked about positives from LSG’s IPL 2025 and gave a special mention to Digvesh Rathi. He said:
“(On the positives) The way our batting unit has come up, there have been some special bowling performances also. Digvesh Rathi is one of them, Avesh bowled some crucial overs. We’ve been getting chances but we weren’t able to maintain it for a longer period of time.”
How did LSG perform in the previous IPL match against RCB?
Lucknow Super Giants registered a brilliant 28-run win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2, 2024 in their previous Indian Premier League clash.
After being put in to bat first, LSG posted a competitive total of 181/5 on the board, courtesy of an excellent knock by Quinton de Kock and a late flourish from Nicholas Pooran.
De Kock scored 81 off 56 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes and batted till the 17th over before being dismissed by Reece Topley.
KL Rahul (20) and Devdutt Padikkal (6) failed to contribute well, but Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a quickfire 24 off 15 before Nicholas Pooran smashed an explosive 21-ball 40 to ensure LSG finished on a strong note.
Defending the total, Mayank Yadav dismantled RCB’s batting line-up and returned with sensational figures of 3/14 in his 4 overs.
Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur, and Manimaran Siddharth also chipped in with wickets and LSG bowled out RCB for 153 in 19.4 overs to seal the win.
