Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shreyas Iyer has been handed an INR 12 lakh fine for the team’s slow over-rate in Match 4 of IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Mullanpur Stadium on Tuesday, March 31. It is only Iyer’s first over-rate offence of the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
PBKS had to keep an extra fielder inside the circle for the final over of their innings due to the slow over-rate. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh conceded 12 runs, including four wides, in the final over. The Shubman Gill-led side posted 162/6 in 20 overs. PBKS chased down the target with five balls to spare.
Shreyas Iyer faced a financial penalty after the Punjab Kings were found guilty of a slow over-rate during their IPL 2026 clash against the Gujarat Titans. It marked the team’s first breach of the season under the IPL’s over-rate regulations.

Regarding the offense, IPL issued a media advisory that read (via www.iplt20.com):
“Punjab Kings (PBKS) Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 4 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the New International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.”
As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 lakhs.”
Gujarat Titans put up 162/6 after being asked to bat first, with Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Glenn Phillips getting decent starts. However, none of them pushed on for a big score as Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yuzvendra Chahal kept things tight.
The innings lost momentum towards the end, with Gujarat adding only 34 runs in the final five overs. Their batters failed to shift gears when needed, resulting in a below-par total on a decent batting surface.
Punjab Kings had a shaky chase with wickets falling regularly in the middle overs, but Cooper Connolly held firm with an unbeaten 72 to seal the win. Prabhsimran Singh scored 37 off 24 balls. Prasidh Krishna picked up three wickets for GT in the match.
