BCCI announces prize money for India U19 World Cup champions


The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a reward of Rs 7.5 crore for the Indian U19 team after they defeated England in the 2026 U19 World Cup final in Harare on Friday, February 7. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia praised the young players and said the board is proud of their achievement.

India, led by Ayush Mhatre, defeated England by 100 runs in the one-sided final at the Harare Sports Club. The Boys in Blue clinched a record sixth title in the U19 tournament. Batting first, India posted a massive total of 411/9 in their allotted 50 overs. In response, England were bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs.

Speaking to PTI, Devajit Saikia said that India’s U19 team delivered a dominant performance in the summit clash. He stated that the victory is a special achievement and has made the entire country proud of the young champions.

“BCCI is extremely happy by the performance of India’s Under-19 Men’s team yesterday in Harare. They won handsomely against England by defeating them by 100 runs, a huge margin. The whole country is proud of our young champions,” Saikia said.

BCCI Is Very Proud To Announce A Reward Of 7.5 Crore – Devajit Saikia

Devajit Saikia announced that the board will reward the Indian U19 team with Rs 7.5 crore for their outstanding performance. He stated that the money will be distributed among the players, support staff, and selectors.

“As a result of their excellent performance, BCCI is very proud to announce a reward of 7.5 crores for our players and the support staff along with the selectors. We are really proud of our young Turks, led by the captain Mhatre and his team, including a super performance by our young Suryavanshi.”

This Performance Of The Young Team Will Encourage Men’s Team – Devajit Saikia

Saikia credited the coaching group for helping the team perform strongly in Zimbabwe and Namibia. He added that the U19 triumph will motivate the senior men’s team, who will begin their title defence against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7.

“The coaches, led by Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and also the mentorship of V.V.S. Laxman, helped the team to perform excellently in Zimbabwe and Namibia. I wish them all the best.”

“With their success, our men’s team, which is starting their campaign against USA today in Wankhede Stadium to defend their title, this performance of the young team will encourage and give them a proper road map for success in the upcoming tournament.”

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 175 off 80 balls with 15 fours and 15 sixes. They added the 2026 title to their earlier wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022, while England remain with one title from 1998. The Indian team lost the previous edition final to Australia.
