Achinta Sheuli Gold: The memorable performance of Indian weightlifters continues in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Now Achinta Sheuli has won the gold medal for India in the 73 kg weight category. 20-year-old Achinta Sheuli records Lifted the weight of 313 kg. This was India’s third gold and sixth overall medal in the current Commonwealth Games.

Achinta remarked, “I am overjoyed.” I overcame numerous obstacles to earn this medal. I’ll give my brother and my coaches this medal in their honour. I will then get ready for the Olympics after that.

The second place in this event went to Malaysia’s Iri Hidayat Muhammad. Hidayat Muhammad lifted 303 kg in total and he could lift 10 kg less than Achinta Sheuli. Canada’s Shad Darsigny won the bronze medal. Darsigny lifted an overall best weight of 298 kg.

India has six medals so far

The unique aspect is that India won all six weightlifting medals at the Commonwealth 2022. Silver medallist Mirabai Chanu from the Tokyo Olympics earlier had won gold in the 49 kg weight division. Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the gold medal for India in the 67 kg weight division at the same time. Both Bindiyarani Devi and Sanket Mahadev Sargar won silver medals in the 55 kg weight class for men and women, respectively. In addition, Gururaja Pujari succeeded in taking home the bronze medal in the 61 kg weight division.

Excellent career so far

Hailing from West Bengal, Chinta Sheuli had won a silver medal in the 73kg category of the Junior World Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last year Achinta Sheuli, the national champion in the 73 kg division, won the silver medal by squatting 313 kg (141 kg snatch and 172 kg clean and jerk).

Achinta-Sheuli then received a ticket to Birmingham after winning the gold medal in the 73 kg weight division at the Commonwealth Championship in December 2021. In that event, Achinta topped the podium by lifting a total of 316 kg. Achinta had also managed to win the gold medal in the 2019 Commonwealth Championship.
