In a promising move, Abid Mushtaq, the talented left-arm spin all-rounder from Jammu and Kashmir, has been chosen to represent the North Zone team in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2023. Abid had an impressive performance in the previous Ranji season, where he claimed a total of 32 wickets.
Abid’s inclusion in the North Zone team for the Duleep Trophy is a significant achievement for the young cricketer. When he was picked by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a net bowler, his ultimate wish was to meet his role model, Ravindra Jadeja. However, by the time Jadeja joined the team, Abid had already left. Thus, he missed the opportunity to interact with his idol. Nonetheless, Abid did get the chance to bowl to the experienced Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the net sessions and received valuable feedback from him. Most of his conversations revolved around cricket with Ambati Rayudu, who was the scout when Abid went for trials in Chennai. Rayudu advised him to continue working hard. Abid Mushtaq Selected for Duleep Trophy 2023: Aiming for IPL Opportunity
In his statement to the Indian Express, Abid expressed his admiration for Ravindra Jadeja, considering him as his ideal. He had made efforts to emulate Jadeja’s batting, bowling, and fielding skills. Abid had planned to meet Jadeja on the day he joined the team, but unfortunately, circumstances didn’t allow for a conversation. However, Abid’s time with Dhoni and his discussions with Rayudu provided him with renewed confidence and motivation.
Abid further mentioned his aspirations to play in the IPL, stating that a strong performance in the Duleep Trophy could potentially open doors for him. He emphasized his consistency in red-ball cricket and expressed disappointment at not receiving any interest from IPL teams despite participating in the previous three auctions. However, his time spent with Chennai and his conversations with both Dhoni and Rayudu have bolstered his self-belief.
Abid is determined to maintain his uncompromising approach to his spin bowling, particularly in terms of flighting the ball. He stressed the importance of consistency in red-ball cricket, where a bowler needs to maintain a steady line and length. He acknowledged the growing emphasis on saving runs in T20 cricket but affirmed that he doesn’t want to compromise on his natural game. To take wickets, he understands the need to flight the ball.
Abid Mushtaq’s selection for the Duleep Trophy 2023 showcases his talent and potential. With his sights set on the IPL, Abid’s consistent performances and dedication to his craft make him a promising prospect for the future of Indian cricket.
