More updates on IPL 2026 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium expected on March 16: KSCA

An Expert Committee of the Karnataka Government held a meeting on Friday, March 13, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The objective of the meeting was to decide the way in which cricket would return to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

KSCA stated that while the discussions were fruitful, more updates on the matter are expected on Monday, March 16, in the evening.

“During the meeting, KSCA made a detailed presentation on the infrastructural upgradations/arrangements and safety measures undertaken at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in line with the recommendations of the Expert Committee that are to be implemented under Phase-I of the compliance framework,” a KSCA statement read.

“Representatives of RCB and their associated operational agencies also presented their preparedness and operational plans for the smooth and orderly conduct of the upcoming IPL matches,” it added.

After the unfortunate stampede during RCB’s victory celebration, the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted any match. Fans were waiting for a positive update from Friday’s meeting but they will have to wait a little longer.

Talking about RCB, the Rajat Patidar-led side finished second on the points table last year after the round-robin phase of the tournament. They defeated Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 and again in the final. The title decider was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB won the match by six runs in a riveting final. The Bengaluru-based franchise won their maiden IPL title by virtue of that win.

This year, a strong RCB side will lock horns with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in match No. 1 of the impending IPL season. Only the first 20 games have been announced by the BCCI. The rest of the matches would be announced in due course. Apart from SRH, RCB face Chennai Super Kings at home on April 5, Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on April 10, and Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on April 12.
