Actually, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s current owners, Diageo, have decided to sell the IPL franchise because it is their non-core asset outside its alcobev (alcohol beverages) focus, and now powerful global groups are showing strong interest.
Diageo opens the door to a mega sale
Several big names have already stepped in. As reported by State of Play, around nine different parties have sent offers to buy the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
These offers are not final deals yet, but they clearly show intent. The numbers are huge, starting from about one billion dollars and going up to nearly 1.8 billion dollars.
This alone shows how much RCB’s value has jumped after finally lifting the IPL trophy. The most talked-about offer is coming from the family that owns Manchester United. The Glazers, through Avram Glazer’s investment company, have reportedly made the strongest offer so far.
Manchester United owners lead the bidding war
Their offer is believed to be close to 1.8 billion dollars, which is approximately INR 16,321 crore. This puts the Manchester United owners at the front of the race right now to buy RCB. Interestingly, the Glazer family is not new to cricket. They already own a cricket team in the UAE’s ILT20 league, the Desert Vipers, who are also current champions.
This shows their growing interest in cricket leagues around the world. Even in the IPL, the Glazer family tried to enter the Indian market when two new teams were added by the BCCI, but they failed because their bid was too low. This time, they have returned with a much stronger and smarter offer.

Diageo eyes a $2.1 Billion jackpot
Even with such a massive bid on the table, Diageo may still want more. After RCB’s historic IPL win, the owners are reportedly looking at a value closer to 2.1 billion dollars (over INR 16,321 crore).
That number reflects not just one title, but RCB’s loyal fan base, star power, and global popularity built over many years. Well, nothing has been finalised yet, and the process is still open.
RCB’s IPL story so far
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one of the original teams of the IPL. Since the debut back in 2008, they reached the IPL final four times but managed to win the trophy only once in 2025 when they defeated Punjab Kings in the final.
They finished as runners-up in 2009 after losing to Deccan Chargers, again in 2011 against Chennai Super Kings, and once more in 2016 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team also came close to another title in the 2011 Champions League T20 but lost the final to the Mumbai Indians.
