Indian Test Squad for West Indies Tour Announced: Rohit Sharma to Lead

The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma has been named the captain, while Ajinkya Rahane will serve as the vice-captain.

Starting from July 12th, Team India will engage in a two-match Test series against the West Indies. The first match will take place in Dominica. The responsibility of leading the team has been bestowed upon Rohit Sharma, with Ajinkya Rahane appointed as the vice-captain.

Following their defeat in the World Test Championship final against Australia, Team India is preparing for their first match. This Test series against the West Indies introduces several fresh faces to the Indian squad. Certain players have been excluded, while young talents have been given the opportunity to be part of the team. Also Read: Largest Cricket Stadium in the World 2023

Among these promising newcomers are Yashasvi Jaiswal, who previously played for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opening batsman for the Chennai Super Kings, and Mukesh Kumar, a skilled fast bowler representing the Delhi Capitals. However, experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has not made it into the team this time.

Additionally, fast bowler Navdeep Saini has successfully returned to the squad. Saini has previously played two Test matches for India, with his most recent appearance dating back to January 2021. Regrettably, senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been included in the team.

The Indian team has once again shown their confidence in Ajinkya Rahane. After his comeback in the World Test Championship final against Australia, Rahane has been appointed as the vice-captain for the Test team. Prior to the WTC final, Rahane had initially been left out of the squad.
